These photos tell the story.

Please pray for so many people that will be impacted by the rising waters of the Mississippi.

Looking through these photos, made me think:

  • How would I react if this were happening to me? Would my reaction be cross-centered and Christ-exalting?
  • What would I carry in my hands if I had to leave my house suddenly like these pictured?
  • How can people keep playing a ballgame when thousands around them are fleeing a flood?
  • How would loving the gospel influence impact the meeting between a farmer who lost some of his farmland because of the decision to breech a levee and the family whose home was saved because of that decision?
  • Why do I complain when we have received twice as much rain this spring but we have no flooding to deal with?

Pastor Brian Croft shares a question that he asked his wife recently, the answer she gave and the principle all husbands would do well to learn.

Husbands, it’s well worth your read today–and practice.  Wives, it’s ok to foward it to your husband.

Laziness never yet had communion with Christ. Those who walk with Christ must walk swiftly. Jesus is no idler or loiterer; he is about his father’s business, and you must march with quick step if you would keep pace with him. As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, are sluggards to active persons. Those who have much to do have no fellowship with gossips, who drop in to while away the hours with chat.
Jesus has no fellowship with you, who care not for souls that are perishing. He is incessantly active, and so must you be if you would know his love. There is a fierce furnace-heat beating upon everything to-day: men are toiling hard to hold their own, and Jesus must not be served by slothful hearts. I am sure that I err not, from his mind, when I say to you, beloved, if you would know the Beloved fully you must get up early, and go afield with him to work with him. Your joy shall be in spending and being spent for him.

From a sermon by Charles Haddon Spurgeon entitled “A Call For Revival,” delivered August 18, 1872. via The Daily Spurgeon.

Will you rejoice in that hour?

The degrees of suffering and the forms of affliction will differ for every one of us. But one thing we will all have in common till Jesus comes: we will all die. We will come to that awesome moment of reckoning. If you have time, you will see your whole life played before you as you ponder if it has been well-spent. You will tremble at the unspeakable reality that in just moments you will face God. And the destiny of your soul will be irrevocable.

Will you rejoice in that hour? You will if you entrust your soul to a faithful Creator. He created your soul for his glory. He is faithful to that glory and to all who love it and live for it. Now is the time to show where your treasure is—in heaven or on earth. Now is the time to shine with the glory of God. Trust him. And keep on rejoicing.

Hope for today 05.10.11

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” ” (Lamentations 3:22–24, ESV)

but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love; ” (Lamentations 3:32, ESV)
