Ever wonder if it is possible to suffer from sermon overload? In good churches, there are usually at least opportunities to take in 3-4 good preaching/teaching opportunities a week. Is that too much?
Clint Archer has a great response to this and a great Jonathan Edwards quote.
“A brilliant retort comes from famed preacher, Jonathan Edwards, who in response to the criticism that congregations cannot possibly remember everything they heard preached replied:
“The main benefit that is obtained by preaching is by impression made upon the mind at the time of it, and not by the effect that arises afterwards by a remembrance of what was delivered not the effect of the memory.”
In other words, the Holy Spirit does a work of change on people during the preaching.”
