Jay, I agree with you. I love seeing proverbs grouped topically. Jerry Dirrman has a great series that goes through proverbs by subject. he encourages you to mark your bible with little letters so that you can see at a glance where the verses are for each topic.

Churches need to be working on providing a justification/clarification/distinct process for marriage that is different than what the state provides. America has had an interesting "run" with having our marriage laws match up with Christian principles, but there's no reason that a secular government is going to reflect Judeo-Christian values. The demographic that appears to be insurmountable when it comes to the Christian definition of marriage is younger voters.

Because of that, I'm considering that it might be best for political activity to be directed at revoking state marriage certificates all together and replacing them with civil unions that are similar to incorporating a business. We should also be comfortable with "giving up" tax deductions related to marriage (e.g. repealing them).

As a voter I'm not going to ever vote to expand marriage beyond the Biblical definition, but I also would be comfortable getting the state out of the "marriage" business and now see a justification to not have tax benefits for state "marriage". And the churches need to be working to clearly enunciate why being married in a church is different than being married by the state. I believe I've heard of this being a distinctive in other countries already (based on some sort of history and/or oppression), and American Christians need to be pursuing something along these lines.

I would agree that many churches are losing significant number. I posted this though simply to point out that the numbers are probably over-inflated. Similar to the assertion that divorce is just as rampant among born again Christians as those who aren't. The problem with that statistic is the definition of "born again" Christian. The criteria for what constituted a Christian in that survey was very, very loose. Certainly true that divorce is an issue among Christians and we need to be proactive in helping build strong marriages but the situation isn't as bad as that survey showed. Same with this issue I think.
