“The story is told of Charles Boyle, the fourth Earl of Orrery, a devoted Christian and brilliant thinker who was fascinated with Kepler’s and Newton’s discoveries about planetary motion and the intricate design of the universe. Boyle hired a watchmaker to design a working mechanical model of the solar system that demonstrated the motion of the planets around the sun. (Such a model is called an orrery, after its designer.) Boyle was showing the model to an atheistic scientist, who was very impressed with the clockwork model. The atheist said, “That’s a very impressive model. Who made it for you?”

“No one made it,” Boyle wryly replied. “It just happened.”

The point was clear. No one really believes such intricate design is the product of happenstance. It reflects the work of an intelligent mind, a Master Designer, who set things in their proper place and started them in motion.”

I heard Dr. Meyer on the radio this week and was very impressed with the way that he interacts with skeptics and supporters alike.
