Afraid? Of what?

I have traveled to some countries unfriendly to Christianity before.  One of the questions I am asked before I leave is “Aren’t you afraid?”  Maybe I am just naive, but I have never been afraid in any of these countries.  God gives me peace, knowing that the safest place to be is in the center of God’s will.

Read this poem (really take the time to read it now) written by Presbyterian missionary E.H. Hamilton following the recent martyrdom of one of his colleagues, J.W. This really is the key to unity in the Christian community.  Lloyd-Jones in fact makes this bold assertion:  “If only every man and woman implemented this one verse, what a different world we would live in. This is the secret to maintaining and achieving humility.” Elsewhere we read,

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2).

“For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them.” (1 Corinthians 9:19).

” We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.” (Romans 15:1-2).

This church is experiencing disunity over the pastor’s compensation package.

And for good reason:

His compensation package includes an annual base salary of $250,000; a monthly housing allowance of $11,500; pension and life insurance benefits; entertainment, travel and “professional development” expenses; an equity allowance for the future purchase of a home; money for a full-time maid; and private school tuition for his 3-year-old daughter.

This is just incredible and what brings reproach on the name of Christ.
