I listened to a seminar recently by Bob Welch and he challenged men (young and old) about the decisions of life they must make.   No decision in these areas is still a decision.  These are not easy questions to answer.  They require Bible-saturated thought, earnest prayer, and wise counsel. If you haven’t thought through these before, start now.  If you have already done so, maybe you need to evaluate if you practice is matching your desired goal or not.  How you decide will set the direction of your life.

  1. When, where, and how often will you worship God with other believers?
  2. What is God’s calling for your life?  What is your life message?
  3. How will you love your wife?
  4. How will you prioritize your daily schedule?
  5. How will you educate your children?
  6. How will you teach your children the Bible?
  7. How will you and your family resolve conflict?
  8. Who will be your family’s closest friends?
  9. What will be source of your income?
  10. How will you and your family handle finances? What about giving, saving, spending, borrowing, credit card and other debt?
  11. What kind of standards will you have for you and your family?
  12. How will your sons and daughters develop social relationships? How will they find their potential life’s mate? What kind of social activities will they be involved in?
  13. How much time and energy will you spend with relatives?
  14. What will be your approach to nutrition, exercise, and health care?
  15. How will you care for your aging parents?

Kindling a love for the OT

“The average Christian’s ignorance of the Old Testament is an unfortunate state of affairs because it is difficult to overstate the importance that the role of the Old Testament plays in the New Testament.”

Only those who have journeyed through the Old Testament can appreciate the full splendor and glory of the New Testament and fully digest its fruit, and those who have not cannot.  The consequence of a general ignorance of  about the Old Testament among the people of God is a pervasive reduction of the full message of the New Testament to a basic gospel of atonement and individual ethics.  I suspect that many Christians feel spiritually undernourished  because they live out their live on the basis of about ten biblical texts.  The spiritual life of the church would be greatly enriched by kindling a love of the Old Testament through a more thorough program of adult Christian education.”
